W32.BLASTER.WORM
Removal Instructions
If you have encountered the W32.BLASTER.WORM, you more than likely have seen a screen similar to the one on the right.

Follow the steps below to get you computer back up and running from this pesky virus.

If you are using Windows XP and window above appears while you are online,
click Start, Run, and then type in:

shutdown -a

and then click Ok (this will cancel the automatic shutdown)

NEXT
Download this file to your desktop: FixBlast

Then, download the appropriate Microsoft Security Patch, and save it to your desktop:

Windows XP (most users) - Security Patch

Windows 2000 - Security Patch

Disconnect from the internet once download is complete.

Now you need to Disable "System Restore" by doing the following:

To turn off Windows XP System Restore:

Note: These instructions assume that you are using the default Windows XP Start Menu and have not changed to the Classic Start menu. To re-enable the default menu, right-click Start, click Properties, click Start menu (not Classic) and then click OK.

Click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Select "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box as shown in this illustration:

Click Apply. The following message appears:

As noted in the message, this will delete all existing restore points.
Click Yes to do this.
Click OK.

Next
Go ahead and run the "FixBlast.exe" on your desktop.

Once you have eliminated the virus, be sure to enable system restore again.

To turn ON Windows XP System Restore:
Click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Clear the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Now, run the Microsoft Security Patch that you download.

You should now be protect and cured from the W32.Blaster.Worm Virus.
